Baked apples with honey, cinnamon and Christmas spices

Instructions

1. Preheat and Prep

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Wash and core the apples, making a well in the center without cutting all the way through. If desired, peel the top third of each apple to help release flavor while baking.

2. Mix the Filling

In a small bowl, combine the honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, salt, and vanilla. If using raisins or nuts, mix them in.

3. Stuff the Apples

Spoon the spiced mixture into the center of each apple. Place a small piece of butter on top of each filled apple to create a rich, caramelized topping.

4. Bake

Place the apples in a baking dish and add about ½ cup of water to the bottom to prevent sticking and create a light steam. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes. Remove foil and bake uncovered for another 10–15 minutes, or until the apples are tender and lightly browned.

5. Serve Warm

Serve warm on their own or topped with whipped cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a spoonful of yogurt for a breakfast twist.

Variations & Tips

  • 🥜 Add crunch: Mix chopped walnuts or pecans into the filling.
  • 🍊 Citrus twist: Add a little orange zest or a splash of orange juice for brightness.
  • 🥄 Make ahead: These can be baked ahead and gently reheated before serving.
  • 🌱 Vegan-friendly: Use coconut oil instead of butter and maple syrup instead of honey.
