  • Versatile: It’s a great standalone treat, but it’s also perfect for toasting, spreading with butter, or serving with a cup of coffee or tea.

Ingredients:

For the Bread:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Glaze (optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Activate the Yeast:

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Stir gently until the sugar is dissolved. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk mixture and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. If the yeast doesn’t bubble up, it may be expired, and you should try again with fresh yeast.

2. Prepare the Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture, softened butter, and egg. Mix everything together until a dough starts to form.
  • Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. You can do this by hand or use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time.

3. First Rise:

  • Lightly grease a bowl and place the dough in it. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

4. Shape the Dough:

  • After the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it into a rectangle about 12×8 inches in size.
  • Brush the melted butter over the surface of the dough. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar together, then sprinkle it evenly over the buttered dough.

5. Create the Swirl:

  • Starting from the longer edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the edges to seal the roll. Place the rolled dough seam-side down in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.

6. Second Rise:

  • Cover the loaf pan with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until it has puffed up and is about 1 inch above the edge of the pan.

7. Bake the Cinnamon Bread:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the dough has risen, bake it for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • If the bread starts to brown too quickly on top, you can cover it loosely with aluminum foil and continue baking until fully done.
