– **Lemon seeds or a young lemon plant** (Meyer lemons are a great choice for indoor growing)
– **A cup or small pot** (with drainage holes)
– **Potting soil** (well-draining citrus or cactus mix works best)
– **Small pebbles or gravel**
– **Watering can or spray bottle**
– **Sunlight or a grow light**
### Getting Started
#### 1. **Choose the Right Container**
Start with a cup that’s about 4–6 inches deep with a few drainage holes at the bottom. If it’s decorative and doesn’t have holes, just place a smaller plastic pot inside it.
#### 2. **Prep Your Soil**
Fill the bottom with a layer of small pebbles to help with drainage, then top it off with potting soil. Citrus trees don’t like wet feet, so make sure the mix is light and airy.
#### 3. **Planting the Seed (or Seedling)**
If you’re starting from seed:
– Use seeds from an organic lemon.
– Rinse off the pulp and plant the seeds about ½ inch deep.
– Keep the soil moist and cover the top with plastic wrap until it sprouts (in about 2–4 weeks).
For faster results, use a baby lemon plant from a nursery. Gently transplant it into your cup and firm the soil around it.
4. **Light It Up**
Lemon trees love the sun! Place your cup on a sunny windowsill that gets 8–12 hours of light per day, or supplement with a grow light if needed.
