### The 5-Minute Oven Cleaning Method
Here’s the step-by-step method that’s helped me cut down on oven-cleaning time and get results that are, dare I say, *better* than my mother-in-law’s. It’s quick, easy, and uses simple ingredients that you probably already have at home.
#### **Ingredients/Tools You’ll Need:**
– **Baking soda**
– **White vinegar**
– **Spray bottle**
– **Paper towels or a microfiber cloth**
– **A spatula or scrubbing brush (optional)**
#### **Step-by-Step Process:**
1. **Remove Racks and Loose Debris**
The first thing you want to do is remove the oven racks and any loose food or crumbs. Just pull them out and set them aside. You’ll be cleaning them separately in a bit. This ensures that you’re only focusing on the oven interior.
2. **Create a Baking Soda Paste**
In a small bowl, mix about **1/2 cup of baking soda** with **a few tablespoons of water** to create a thick paste. You want it to be spreadable, so adjust the water as needed. Baking soda is a **natural abrasive** that helps to lift grime without harsh chemicals, making it safe for your oven and easy on the lungs.
3. **Apply the Paste**
Using a clean cloth or your hands, spread the baking soda paste over the interior of the oven. Focus on areas with visible grease or grime, including the bottom and sides. You don’t need to coat every inch—just cover the spots that need attention. Leave the paste on for about **15 minutes**. In the meantime, you can clean your racks.
4. **Clean the Oven Racks**
While the baking soda paste is working its magic, soak the oven racks in **hot water** mixed with a bit of **dish soap**. Let them sit for about 10-15 minutes, then scrub with a brush or sponge. You’ll be surprised at how easily the grease and grime come off. If needed, use the same baking soda paste on tough spots.
