Are you tired of spending a fortune on store-bought laundry detergents that don’t always live up to the hype? If you’re looking for an affordable, effective, and natural alternative, then look no further! This 3-ingredient liquid laundry soap recipe is a game-changer for your laundry routine.
Not only will it clean your clothes like a charm, but it will also soften fabrics naturally, and it’s completely customizable to your favorite scents! Ready to ditch those harsh chemicals and make your own detergent that works wonders? Let’s dive in!
🧾 Ingredients You’ll Need:
- 1 bar of Castile soap (or any mild soap like Dr. Bronner’s)
- 1 cup of washing soda
- ½ cup of baking soda
- Water (enough to fill a gallon container)
- Essential oils (optional, for fragrance – lavender, lemon, or eucalyptus are great options)
👩‍🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Grate the Soap
Start by grating 1 bar of Castile soap (you’ll need about 1 cup of shredded soap). This soap is gentle on clothes but powerful enough to clean. You can use a regular cheese grater or a food processor to make this step quick and easy.
2. Dissolve the Soap
In a large pot, heat 4 cups of water over medium heat. Add the grated soap and stir until completely dissolved. This will form the base of your liquid detergent.
3. Add the Washing Soda & Baking Soda
Once the soap is dissolved, add 1 cup of washing soda and ½ cup of baking soda to the mixture. Stir well until both are fully dissolved. These ingredients work together to boost cleaning power while also softening your laundry.
- Washing soda helps break down grease and stains, while
- Baking soda neutralizes odors and softens fabrics naturally.
4. Fill with Water
Once the ingredients have dissolved, add enough water to fill the pot to about 1 gallon (16 cups). Stir to combine. The mixture should be smooth and liquid, not too thick.
5. Let It Set
Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, stir again and pour it into a large container, like a gallon jug. If you want to add some essential oils for fragrance, now is the time! Add 15–20 drops of your favorite essential oils (lavender, lemon, or eucalyptus are all great options).
