Let’s dive into how you can whip up this irresistible dish that’s made even better with the convenience of oven baking!

The Recipe: Oven-Baked Cheesy Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan has long been a crowd-pleasing classic, but sometimes the process of frying the chicken and prepping everything can feel a bit time-consuming. That’s where this Oven-Baked Cheesy Chicken Parmesan comes in! It’s just as crispy, cheesy, and flavorful as the traditional version, but you can skip the frying and instead let the oven do all the work. The result is a perfectly golden, crispy coating with a tender, juicy chicken breast, all smothered in marinara sauce and gooey mozzarella.

Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Olive oil spray (or a light drizzle of olive oil)

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat Your Oven

Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray. This ensures your chicken will bake evenly and won’t stick to the pan.

Step 2: Prepare the Chicken

To give the chicken breasts that extra tender texture, you can gently pound them to an even thickness using a meat mallet or rolling pin. This helps the chicken cook uniformly and ensures it stays juicy.

Season both sides of the chicken with salt and pepper. In a shallow dish, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, and basil. These seasonings will give your chicken the perfect blend of flavors.

Step 3: Set Up the Dredging Station

In one shallow dish, place the flour. In a second shallow dish, beat the eggs. In the third shallow dish, place the breadcrumb mixture.

Take each chicken breast, dip it into the flour, making sure to coat both sides. Then, dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally, press it into the breadcrumb mixture until it’s well-coated. This triple-dipping method ensures that your chicken will be wonderfully crispy once baked.

Step 4: Bake the Chicken

Place the breaded chicken breasts onto the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray the tops of the chicken with olive oil spray, or drizzle a little olive oil on top. This helps the breadcrumbs turn golden and crispy in the oven.

Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, flipping the chicken halfway through the cooking time to ensure it’s golden and crispy on both sides. The internal temperature of the chicken should reach 165°F (75°C) when fully cooked.

Step 5: Add Marinara and Cheese

Once the chicken is golden and crispy, it’s time to top it off with marinara sauce and cheese. Spoon about 1/4 cup of marinara sauce onto each piece of chicken, and then sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Return the chicken to the oven and bake for an additional 5–7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

Remove the chicken from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped basil if desired. Serve this cheesy, golden delight with a side of pasta, a fresh salad, or garlic bread for a truly satisfying meal.
