New standards: restrictions on certain equipment
Another major change for wood-fired fuelling users is that energy performance criteria will be strengthened.
- By 2025, all new equipment will have to be energy efficient at at least 75%.
- Open, highly polluting households will be phased out in some urban areas as of 1 January 2025.
- In the major cities, this ban will be generalised by 30 June 2025.
Why these restrictions? Old wood-fired fuelling systems are responsible for a significant share of fine particle emissions, contributing to air pollution and public health problems.
What to do? Check whether your installation complies with the new standards and anticipate a possible replacement to avoid additional costs or sanctions.
Replacement of polluting equipment: an ambitious government target
The Ecological Transition Ministry has set a clear target: to replace 600,000 obsolete wood fire systems by the end of 2025.
Why? Because new models of biomass pellet stoves and boilers offer better energy efficiency and emit up to 90% less fine particles.
