### How to Make Slow Cooker Amish Harvest Casserole
Making this casserole in your slow cooker is as easy as it gets. Here’s how you can do it:
#### Step 1: Cook the Ground Meat
Start by heating **1-2 tablespoons of olive oil** in a skillet over medium heat. Add the **ground beef** (or turkey) and **chopped onion**. Cook the mixture, breaking it apart with a spoon, until the meat is browned and the onion is soft. Drain any excess fat if necessary, then season with **garlic powder**, **onion powder**, **salt**, and **pepper**. Stir well to combine. Once the meat is fully cooked, set it aside.
#### Step 2: Prepare the Slow Cooker
While the meat is cooking, prepare your **slow cooker**. Layer the bottom with the **sliced potatoes**. This will form the base of the casserole and allow them to cook and soften as the casserole simmers.
#### Step 3: Assemble the Casserole
Once the meat is cooked and seasoned, add it to the slow cooker, layering it on top of the potatoes. Follow with the **frozen corn** and **peas** (if using). These vegetables add a touch of sweetness and color to the casserole.
#### Step 4: Make the Creamy Sauce
In a medium bowl, combine the **cream of mushroom soup**, **sour cream**, and **milk** (if using). Stir in the **dried thyme** and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth, then pour the creamy mixture evenly over the contents of the slow cooker.
#### Step 5: Top with Cheese
Sprinkle **shredded cheddar cheese** over the top of the casserole. The cheese will melt into a gooey, golden layer that adds extra richness and flavor.
Step 6: Cook the Casserole
Cover the slow cooker with its lid and set it to cook on **low** for **6-7 hours** or on **high** for **3-4 hours**. The casserole is ready when the potatoes are tender and cooked through, and the flavors have melded together.
