They’re ready in less than 30 minutes!
If you’re craving a sweet treat that will fill your kitchen with mouth-watering aromas, here’s a simple recipe for making delicious sweet donuts. Let’s dive in!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional for extra flavor)
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: sprinkles, chocolate chips, or cinnamon sugar for topping
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Donut Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using). Whisk the dry ingredients together to ensure they are well mixed.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well until everything is combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this could result in dense donuts. The dough will be thick, but it should be easily manageable.
2. Shape the Donuts:
On a lightly floured surface, turn the dough out and gently roll it to about 1/2-inch thickness. You can use a donut cutter if you have one, or simply use a round cookie cutter and a smaller one to cut out the hole in the center. If you don’t have a cutter, you can also shape them by hand into round patties and use a bottle cap to cut out the center.
3. Heat the Oil:
In a deep pot or skillet, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat. The oil should reach 350°F (175°C). To test if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of dough into the oil—if it sizzles and floats to the surface, the oil is hot enough.
4. Fry the Donuts:
Carefully drop the donuts into the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and puffed up. Use a slotted spoon to carefully remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
5. Make the Glaze:
While the donuts are cooling slightly, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add a little more milk, one teaspoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
